Melkbosstrand, named after the milkwood trees growing north of the town is a beautiful coastal village 20 minutes drive from Cape Town and situated on the West Coast, 7km from Table View.

Melkbosstrand is a popular venue for surfing, windsurfing, crayfishing, fishing and kite-surfing – one of the reasons being easy access through the surf and therefore the only natural slipway close to Cape Town. That is also the reason why the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is situated on the beachfront. They also store their rescue boats and equipment there.

Early mornings and sunset time, cyclists can be seen on the road between Melkbosstrand and Bloubergstrand. Another favourite is mountain biking in the nature reserve or on the beach.

Open white and clean beaches invite long walks, sunbathing and safe swimming. The Melkbosstrand residents are proud of their town and like to keep the town and beaches clean. Washed-out kelp are removed from the beach on a regular basis.

Green lawns leading onto the beach are well maintained and inviting for kids (and adults) to have fun, have picnics, or just to relax.

Enjoy the tranquility of this centrally located coastal town and its breathtaking sunsets.
